Download Nudist Audio Nudistort for macOS

If you've ever pushed a saturator until it folded in on itself and wished it would just keep going, Nudistort picks up where that limit used to live. It's not about warming things up. It digs into the signal and pulls out something dense — bright, jagged harmonic content that feels more like a material change than an effect. The algorithm is built fresh for this, so it doesn't sound quite like the usual diode or tube models you already know.
Destructive parallel bus blending
- Parallel distortion buses where you blend in controlled chaos
- Synthesizers and drum machines that need to cut through a dense mix
- Sound design sessions — turning benign samples into percussive shrapnel
- Vocals when you want a lo-fi, shredded layer sitting underneath the main take
Embracing harsh expressiveness
- Leans toward harsh and expressive — not a subtle warming tool
- The interface is in English only
- Requires macOS 10.13 or later; runs natively on Apple Silicon and Intel 64-bit
Spectral chaos at low CPU cost
I dropped Nudistort across half a dozen projects over the past week and the first thing that stood out was how little it asks of the CPU. Most distortion plugins that aim for this level of spectral chaos tend to drag the meters into the red before you've even finished tweaking — this one doesn't. On an M1 MacBook Air with a modest Ableton Live set (around 30 tracks, a few instances of Nudistort sprinkled across drum and synth sends), the session hummed along without a single dropout or buffer underrun. Even on an older Intel i5 iMac running Logic, one instance stayed comfortably under 4% CPU, which leaves plenty of headroom for stacking it up — and stacking is exactly where this plugin earns its keep.
Stability has been equally solid. No crashes during plugin scans in Logic, Live, or REAPER, and AU, VST3, and AAX all validated without hiccups. The one quirk I noticed: on very fast automation moves — think near-instant parameter jumps every sixteenth note — the GUI can lag behind the audio engine by a beat. The sound stays tight though, so it's purely a visual thing and barely worth mentioning unless you're staring at the screen while printing stems.
Memory usage is light too. I compared it side-by-side with a handful of other distortion units and Nudistort consistently sat at the low end of the pack, around 40–60 MB per instance depending on oversampling settings. That means you can run it on an older machine without worrying about swapping, which makes it genuinely viable for field-recording laptops and creaky studio rigs alike.
Tiny details that make a difference
A few things I nearly missed during the first couple of sessions but now reach for constantly:
- Double-clicking any knob resets it to its default value — no
Optionkey required. In a plugin where small turns can swing the sound from "crunchy" to "unusable," this saves a lot of ear fatigue. - The output gain compensates automatically when you enable internal oversampling. Most plugins leave you to rebalance levels manually, but here the perceived loudness stays roughly where you left it — a thoughtful touch when you're A/B testing heavy processing chains.
- There's an unlabeled Shift-drag fine-tuning mode that slows knob response by roughly half. It's not in the manual, but it works across every control and makes surgical adjustments much less twitchy.
- Clipboard-friendly preset management. You can copy an entire instance's state to the system clipboard and paste it into another instance — handy when you want to duplicate a sound across different DAWs without exporting preset files.
Single-voice focus vs. Rift’s toolkit
If you've spent time with Minimal Audio Rift, you'll notice Nudistort occupies a narrower lane — Rift gives you multiband processing, a feedback section, and a modulation engine, whereas Nudistort focuses purely on a single distortion voice and pushes it far harder. Rift is more versatile as a general-purpose mangler, but for sheer harmonic aggression in one band, Nudistort gets meaner faster and with fewer knobs.
Compared to Native Instruments Crush Pack (specifically the Dirt module), Nudistort's sound signature is brighter and less compressed. Dirt leans toward a scooped, almost lo-fi breakup that works beautifully on bass and pads; Nudistort's high-end bite makes it better suited to leads, snares, and anything you want to slice through a wall of guitars. If Dirt is a blunt instrument, Nudistort is a scalpel that happens to be on fire.
Against iZotope Trash 2 — a plugin that many producers searching for a nudistort torrent or a nudistort crack tend to compare it against — the newer algorithm in Nudistort feels more immediate. Trash 2's convolution engine and multiband routing give it near-infinite combinations, but you can spend twenty minutes dialing in a tone that Nudistort delivers in two. Trash rewards patience; Nudistort rewards instinct. A few friends hunting for a nudistort free release after their Trash demos expired told me the hands-on speed was what convinced them to stick with it.
One thing none of these alternatives share is Nudistort's particular way of folding harmonics back into the low-mids as you increase drive. Most distortion plugins scoop out the body as they saturate; this one thickens it. That alone makes it worth keeping in the rotation even when you already own the heavy hitters.
Version 1.2.5 is the current release available.
- macOS 10.13 or later
- Apple Silicon or Intel 64-bit processor
- VST3, AU, or AAX compatible host
