Download Crime Scene Cleaner for macOS

15 minutes. That’s how long you have to scrub blood off the walls, bag evidence, and mop the floors before you risk getting caught. Crime Scene Cleaner drops you into the rubber gloves of a man doing dirty work for cash — and every job you finish brings you closer to helping the daughter waiting at home. It’s part action sim, part quiet family story, and it doesn’t pull punches on either front.
Who’ll sink right in
- Players who like pressure. The police won’t wait, and the timer adds a layer of sweat to every mop stroke.
- Fans of inventory management. Some missions make you check your supplies before heading out — forget the bleach and you’re in trouble.
- Story-first gamers. The daughter’s needs ground the grim work in something human, not just shock value.
- Simulation lovers who don’t need polish. The jank is real, but the routine of cleaning feels weirdly satisfying.
The squeamish and the countdown-averse
- The squeamish. The crime scenes don’t hint at violence — they show the aftermath in detail.
- Players who hate timers. If countdowns stress you out, this game is built on that exact anxiety.
With English voice acting and a surprisingly long list of interface languages, it’s accessible even when the subject matter isn’t. If you can stomach the gore and the clock, the quiet moments between jobs make the mess worth it.
Pin it to its own desktop space, away from iCloud saves
Because Crime Scene Cleaner runs through Wineskin, it doesn't show up in your iCloud game saves or Game Center achievements — but that doesn't mean it lives in a vacuum. I keep it pinned to a dedicated desktop space on my Mac, with Mission Control swiping me between the blood-soaked apartments and everything else. The game plays nicely with Focus modes, too. I've got a Gaming focus set up that silences notifications and dims my secondary display so the timer pressure feels more immersive, not interrupted by Slack pings.
One quirk worth knowing: the save files live inside the app bundle under AppData/LocalLow/President Studio/CrimeCleaner. That means if you back up your Mac with Time Machine, your progress gets swept up along with the app itself — no hunting through hidden Library folders. If you ever want to share your save between two Macs, just copy the whole app bundle. Crude, but it works.
Settings I'd change in the first five minutes
- Language first, obviously. The game asks on launch, but if you skipped past it, dig into the settings menu before you're waist-deep in a bathroom cleanup wondering what the tutorial pop-up said. Fifteen languages sit in there, and switching mid-career doesn't break anything.
- Sound mix. The voice acting is in English, but the environmental audio — drips, footsteps, the low hum of the electric washer — does a lot of heavy lifting for atmosphere. Drop the music volume just a hair so you can hear a police siren before the timer runs out. Your ears will thank you.
- Control sensitivity. The default mop and sponge tracking can feel a touch floaty on a trackpad. If you're not using a mouse, bump the look sensitivity down a notch or two. It makes the cleanup feel more deliberate and less like you're fighting the camera while the clock ticks.
- Mac with Apple Silicon chip
Questions people ask
What should I do if Crime Scene Cleaner won’t launch on my Mac?
If you see a launch error, mount the disk image again and run the Fix file included there — it usually sorts things out.
