Download WHAT THE CAR? for macOS

Version 6.0.2 lands with a couple of small but welcome tweaks: you can now skip cutscenes, and a stubborn bug that refused to hand out a card in the burger level has been squashed. It is a tiny patch for a game that is anything but tiny in personality.
Legged car chaos and genre-hopping puzzles
- Fans of physical comedy. Your car has legs. It tumbles, flails, and pinwheels across rooftops. The humor lands because the controls are deliberately bouncy, not broken.
- People who jump between genres. One minute you are solving a puzzle, the next you are delivering packages with a jetpack. The game treats racing as a suggestion, not a rule.
- Builders and sharers. The level creator is straightforward. Making a track for friends is quick, and trying whatever nonsense they send back is half the fun.
Bouncy disasters over tight lap times
- Not a precision racer. If you want tight lap times and tuning, this will feel like a delightful disaster you did not sign up for.
- Joke density is high. The humor is constant and absurd. Players who prefer a straight-faced experience may find the silliness exhausting over a long session.
- Treasure hunting is gentle. Collectibles are there, but they serve the chaos rather than providing a hardcore completionist grind.
Compared to the family and friends
If you played What the Golf?, you already know Triband's rhythm: introduce a simple idea, then twist it every thirty seconds. WHAT THE CAR? uses the same trick book but aims at a wider set of playgrounds — open islands, community levels, and vehicles that sometimes have jetpacks instead of wheels. It feels less like a tight series of one-shot gags and more like a messy sandbox that keeps handing you new toys.
Put it beside Goat Simulator 3 and the difference sharpens. Goat Simulator is about breaking the world on purpose; WHAT THE CAR? is about a world that was already broken when you arrived, and you are just the leggy sedan trying to get through lunch. The physics are softer, the jokes more authored, and the game rarely asks you to exploit glitches for fun — it writes the glitches into the script.
Next to a straight-laced arcade racer like Horizon Chase 2, the contrast is almost unfair. One wants you in a flow state, the other wants you to flip burgers with your front bumper. This is not a car game for car people — it is a comedy that happens to use a windshield as the punchline.
First days: survival tips
- Treat every vehicle like a new language. When the game hands you legs, jet thrusters, or inexplicable springs, spend ninety seconds just messing with the physics before chasing the goal. The muscle memory from the last level rarely carries over, and that is by design.
- Say yes to weird invites. Friend-made levels pop up in the hub, and the creator tools are light enough that your first track will be ready in five minutes. Sharing early — even a dumb loop with a karaoke finish line — opens up the social side of the islands faster than grinding alone.
- Leave cutscenes on for the first playthrough. The 6.0.2 patch added skipping, which is a gift on replays. But the initial run hides some of its best physical comedy in those brief, unskippable moments of overconfident car pantomime.
Version 6.0.2 fixes an issue where a card wasn't awarded in the burger level on macOS and tvOS, and adds the ability to skip cutscenes.
- macOS 12.0 or later
- Works on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs
